THE FILM
A cattle rancher battling Lewy body dementia struggles to hold onto his autonomy as his mind slips away. As his reality becomes intertwined with fading memories, cherished western films, and haunting visions of his late brother, he yearns to embark on one last trail ride to make peace with death on his own terms. With the help of his granddaughter, he fights to rewrite the ending of his story before it’s too late.
Over 57 million people have dementia worldwide
Why this story? Why now?
Medical Aid in Dying
In the United States, Medical Aid in Dying is only available in 12 states and Washington DC.
As a society we need to have respect for personal choice in the face of suffering.
Dementia Treatments
Around 1.4 million individuals in the United States are diagnosed with Lewy body dementia (LBD).
The first Alzheimer’s drugs to be FDA approved were released in 2024, however there is still no cure for LBD. With more awareness on this topic we will hopefully see more research for treatments.
Normalize Talking About Death
As a hospice volunteer, writer/director M.C. huff has seen first hand that many family members and friends do not want to be around in the final hours of life, so these individuals end up dying alone.
We shouldn’t fear the dying, we should be there to comfort them. But that starts with re-shaping the narrative around death and how we view it and talk about it as a society.
